Stilwell Indians Girls Basketball Preview – Presented by Northeastern Health System

GIRLS

Coach: Glen Cone

21-22 Record: 22-7

The Lady Indians return four starters and a pair of experienced bench players off a team that went to the state tournament last year so there is a lot of anticipation for this squad. “We were young last year and still are this year with just one senior and are hoping to build on our experience. Besides those players that are returning we also have a couple of freshmen coming in that could help us a lot,” said coach Glen Cone. Point guard Snowda Watie (5-5, Jr.) is the catalyst for Stilwell. “She led our team in scoring (12.0 points a game) assists, 3-point shooting, and steals. She has great leadership qualities, plays hard all the time and is a winner on and off the court,” said Cone.

The Lady Indians will have good size in the middle with Shannon Catron (5-8, Jr.) and at forward with Kinley Johnson (5-8, Jr.) who has led the team in rebounding the last two years. Katelyn Wilson (5-7, So.) is a jack of all trades for Stilwell. “She can play about any position, can rebound well and came off the bench to take some of the pressure off Snowda last year,” said Cone. The Lady Indians also have their own source of determination and inspiration in Kaylea Benham (5-7, Jr.) “Kaylea is coming back off the her second knee injury in as many years. “She is determined not to let those injuries stop her and is battling back every day. She will be a huge difference maker for us this year,” said Cone. Also back in a starting role is Wendi Holmes (5-7, the only senior on the team who averaged just over 5 points a game last season. Also look for big help from Kasia Thurber (5-7, Jr.) and sophomore Kenzie Starr.
