Head coach – Brad Gilbert
2021: 7-4
The strength of the Tigers defensive unit rests in the playmaking talents of the linebacker and secondary unit as seven starters return in 2022. Mason Watkins (5-10, 194, Jr.) who totaled 87 stops reunites with Jayden Moore (6-0, 201, Jr.) who chased down opponents 64 times including four tackles for loss along with Brayden Northington (6-3, 212, Jr.) who charted 45 tackles and Josh Munoz whose 42 tackles included a pair sacks. Entering this year with 22 starts, Dylan Leep (6-2, 191, Sr.) will captain the secondary unit where he snagged six interceptions while making 24 tackles along with Coda Bunch (5-8, 172, Sr.) with added cover talents expected from Lasean Johnson (5-11, 153, Jr.) Beckett Robinson and Race Stopp. The maturity of the defensive front will be critical as Tate Whittmore, Kale Shankle, Beau Burnett (6-3, 217, Jr.) and Marcus Daugherty (6- 3, 314, Jr.) seek the nose guard starter’s role while Carter Kelly (6-1, 197, So.), Dylan Stopp (6-3, 224, Sr.), Cash Jones (5-9, 218, So.) and Eli Gibson (6-0, 204, Jr.) protect the edge at defensive end. “We have a very active defense that runs to the ball with high intensity,” said Gilbert. “Our linebackers and defensive backfield has plenty of game time experience. Up front, we’ll use a rotation of players to control the line of scrimmage.
