Tahlequah’s Cheer – Spirit of the Tigers – Presented by Beverly Jeanes Coldwell Banker Select

The Tahlequah cheer program has a rich history of competing in competitions while also providing school spirit at gamedays, assemblies, and other school events. This year, as they do most years, Tahlequah cheer qualified for the state competition. Coaches Mandi Stafford and Melissa Dotson lead the program this year and have been keeping the tradition alive for the Tigers.

Coach Stafford and Dotson rave about the senior class of 2023 saying: “These seniors lead with passion and heart. They have been committed and push the team to be their best. They are the first to arrive and the last to leave.”

In cheer as with any sport, teamwork is key for success, and the Tahlequah cheer squad exemplifies this standard. Every member of the squad is willing to step up and do whatever is needed to help the team.

Take for example one senior, Anna Kliest, who had not been an active cheer member for several years. However, when the Lady Tigers had a vacancy on their roster Kliest stepped into the role without hesitation.

“Anna hadn’t cheered since she was a freshman and she is now a senior,” Stafford said. “We needed her and she joined the team. She brought her great work ethic to our team and she has added skill and also provides a calming presence.”

While the upperclassmen lead the way for the Lady Tigers, they also do well to show the underclassmen the ropes and help them prepare for upcoming events and competitions.

Dynashia Bailey is one freshman who has impressed coaches and has already learned a great deal about having a great work ethic and positive attitude.

“Dynashia has stepped into the role of main base and has never looked back,” Stafford said. “She gets hurt, gets right back in and tries again. She does anything needed for the team and has a big future ahead of her!”
