When Tanner Bloxham crossed the graduation stage, he did so with a smile recalling a lifetime filled with memories.

“No matter the circumstances, I always looked at the bright side keeping a smile on my face and kept chugging,” said the 2021 McCurtain High School senior.

The special moments as a McCurtain Bulldog flashback to and early beginning when he began playing T-ball with lifelong friends that would remain as teammates through graduation day.

“Gage (Cooper), Ethan (Satterfield), Brody (Short) and I have always played on the same team since we played for the Superstars,” recalled Bloxham. “We learned how to compete and work hard in whatever we’ve done. From back then and now teammates for life, we’ve all had each other’s back at all times.”

When Tanner wasn’t playing baseball or basketball, he was learning the skills of an electrician, a trait he plans to become his career. Making the most of his free time, he continues to enjoy fishing, hunting, playing video games or spending time with his girl friend. 

Choosing words including hard working and outgoing to describe his efforts, Tanner believes there’s something else just as important.

“I want people to know that you can always count on me to be there.”

When the game to go to state was on the line, Bloxham came up clutch with what he calls the best game of his career. And, as the point guard for the basketball team or playing centerfield wearing the Bulldogs baseball uniform, he is consistent referred to as the “ultimate teammate”.

“He never complained about anything and worked extremely hard in sports and in the classroom,” said McCurtain coach Dillon Monday. “A pass-first guard willing to defend the opponent’s best player as well as able to lay down a bunt or make a diving catch in the outfield, Tanner is a team first competitor. His work ethic and selflessness will make him a success in life.”

It’s an approach that Bloxham gives credit to Bryan Schlekeway for his approach to any situation.

“He told me to just play your game,” said Bloxham with heartfelt compassion. “No matter what happens all you can do is play your game.”

With graduation day come and gone and the real world now in front of him, there’s no doubt that Tanner Bloxham is ready to make the best of every situation and meet every challenge with smile and determination to find a way to win.
