Two exceptional young athletes are making waves on the track team at Roland High School. Meet Halle Freeman, a freshman, and her older sister, Haven Freeman, a junior with a passion for sports. Together, they embody the spirit of teamwork, dedication and a sibling camaraderie that has captivated their community.
Halle, a versatile athlete who excels in both basketball and track, shared her motivation: “My family, I always want to make my family proud and be something they can brag about.” Her commitment to excellence is fueled by the unwavering support of her parents, who inspire her to strive for greatness in sports. Reflecting on her achievements, she fondly recalls the thrill of beating Muldrow in the Sequoyah County tournament, a victory that holds a special place in her heart. “Competing and making memories with my sister means a lot to me,” she said.
For Haven, basketball and track are not just sports but a way of life. As a dedicated point guard and track athlete, she draws inspiration from her faith and parents, who epitomize hard work and dedication. “My mom and dad always pushed themselves to be the best, which reflects on me,” she said.
Dara Tyler, Haven’s principal, always talks to her about “being a leader and being vocal.” “She challenges me to do things that push me out of my comfort zone,” Haven said.
Haven’s triumph in winning the Sequoyah County tournament stands as a testament to her resilience, determination and one of her favorite memories.
The sibling rivalry between the Freemans adds an extra layer of excitement to their athletic pursuits. “I enjoy competing with my sister; she’s just an all-around athlete, and competing makes me better,” Halle said. Haven echoes her sentiments, praising their competitive spirit that drives them to excel. Their bond extends beyond the track, with Haven expressing, “It means everything getting to compete with my sister. I’m always proud of her, no matter what.”
As they juggle sports and academics, both siblings find time to contribute to their school community. Halle, with aspirations of playing college basketball or pursuing optometry, while Haven, a member of the National Honors Society, aims to continue her basketball journey in college or pursue a career in nursing. Their dedication to their school and their shared passion for sports exemplify the values of hard work, perseverance and pride in representing the Roland Rangers.
The Freeman siblings’ journey on the track team is not just about winning races or games; it’s about the bond they share, the memories they create and the legacy they are building together—one stride at a time.
