BRILEY CAGLE

MORRIS CHEER

Life has been full of highlights for Morris High senior Briley Cagle, a member of the Eagles cheer squad.

The highlights started early in life when she got into tumbling.

“I started tumbling when I was five and have tumbled competitively. I won a national title in tumbling when I was 10 and that was pretty cool,” said Briley.

As life got busier in middle school, Briley had to give up competitive tumbling though it’s still a big part of Morris cheer according to her co-head coach Lisa Merrill.

“Briley has been a part of the Morris community all her life-in fact, I was her kindergarten teacher,” laughed Merrill. “She’s one of our power tumblers. She is a great leader by example and displays great character with her actions and in the classroom. We call her ‘our crazy sock person’ because she always shows up to practice in a pair of crazy socks.”

And cheer is where Briley accomplished another highlight to go with her tumbling.

“Last year I qualified for All-Star cheer at summer camp and that group got to perform in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. I wasn’t able to make the trip, but it was nice to make the team.”

Briley also plays centerfield for the Eagles softball team which last year got to go to the state tournament.

“We didn’t last very long at state, but it was still a great experience,” said Cagle.

Her cheer career didn’t start until seventh grade, and she’s cheered every year since including her sophomore and junior years when the team made state in the spirit competition. In addition, she’s been vice president of her class all four years and is the president this year of the National Honor Society chapter and takes part in the Morris Movement podcast.

She says she hasn’t had to look far for a role model over the years.

“My older brother Kaden has always been my role model and he’s always supported me. He played baseball and wore number 15 and that’s why I wear it today on my softball uniform.”

Briley plans to attend OU in the fall and study nursing.
