Playing softball is something that is a family affair in the household of Weleetka senior Madison Robertson.

“My mom played softball at Eastern State and my dad played high school baseball. My younger brother. J.R., is a starting pitcher on the baseball team and I have a younger sister that plays softball,” said Madison. “I remember when I was young coming to the ballpark here in Weleetka and watching my aunt, Autumn Creason, play. She was a really good catcher and I remember thinking that I wanted to be like her.”

In addition to softball, Madison also plays basketball for the Lady Outlaws and is in cheer. She is in the National Honor Society and Indian Honor Society and is co-valedictorian of her class while carrying a 4.13 grade point average. A four-year starter on the softball team as a catcher in fast pitch and at third base in slow pitch, she has excelled in her senior year according to her coach Chase Smith.

“You can always count on Madison to do the right thing and be where she is supposed to be,” said Smith. “This year she hit .550 with a career average of .440. She is a multi-year all-conference player in both fast pitch and slow pitch, has been named to the Native American All-Star team and was just named to the Weleetka All-Tournament team. She’s been a great leader by example for us the last two years.”

Madison credits two of her softball coaches, coach Smith and assistant coach Rodrigo Barcenes, as being big influences in her life.

“They have shown me how to push myself in all aspects of life.”

Robertson says her fondest memory of softball at Weleetka was hitting a walk-off grand slam last year. She credits her parents as motivating her as she thinks about her legacy for the Outlaws.

“I owe them so much and I always try to make them proud of me in whatever I’m doing,” stated Madison. “When I leave, I’d like to be remembered as a person who performed to the best of her abilities and represented Weleetka High School well.”

Upon graduation Madison plans to attend OSU-IT and study pre-education
