OFFENSE

After making to the third round of the Class A playoffs last season, the Gore Pirates are hungry for more. Head coach Brandon Tyler is excited about the players they have returning and what it could mean to the program. “Excited about the 2021 season,” said Tyler. “We return 11 starters on both sides of the ball. If we can stay healthy, we feel like this could be one of the better years Gore has ever had.” Gunner Dozier (6-1, 205, Jr.) returns at running back with another year under his belt. Dozier rushed for 1,217 yards and 19 touchdowns last season. Zane Craighead (6-1, 185, Sr.) will quarterback the Pirates. As a junior he rushed for 1,045 yards and 12 touchdowns and completed 40 of 91 passes for 682 yards and eight scores. Two big reasons for the success are Gabe Dozier (6-2, 260, Jr.) and Garrett Douthit (6-3, 270, Jr.). Dozier is a three-year starter while Douthit is a two-year starter. Their leadership up front is huge for the offensive unit. Jackson Duke (5-11, 175, Jr.) can play multiple position giving the Pirates a player who can run and receive in the play-action passing game.

DEFENSE

Lynden Manning (5-10, 215, Jr.) leads the way on defense from his linebacker spot. Manning made 97 tackles with three fumble recoveries and one interception last season. Another solid linebacker is Dayne Perryman (5-10, 190, Jr.). Perryman had 88 tackles and three fumble recoveries of his own. Duke will shift to defense where he will start at one of the spots in the secondary alongside Keigan Ried (6-0, 170, Jr.) who grabbed 32 tackles and picked off four passes in 2020 and Tyler Lane (5-10, 160, Jr.) who totaled 58 tackles. Wyatt Marrell (6-0, 210, Jr.) moves to outside linebacker where he recorded 65 tackles and made four fumble recoveries last season. Look for the Pirates to base in the 3-4 and attack with all 11 guys on the field.
