OFFENSE

After a nice run to the quarterfinals of the Class C playoffs, the Midway Chargers are looking to continue that success into the 2021 season. Head coach Steve Corn said they need to, “finish it.” “We are harping on, finish the play, finish the tackle, finish the season with us hoisting the gold ball.” One player looking to bring a title to Midway is Geral Washington (5-11, 190, Sr.) at quarterback. Washington passed for more than 2,500 yards with 31 touchdowns. He also added 750 yards on the ground and 10 more scores. His production was crucial to the overall success of the team. The Chargers will base in the pistol formation but try and run a balanced attack. “We are going to be able to beat teams through the air and still have the power up front to ground and pound when needed,” said Corn. Cole Miller (5-7, 140, Jr.) had 750 yards receiving with 15 touchdowns last season. Also look for Jackson Miller (6-4, 220, Sr.) at tight end.  Walker Hollingshed (5-10, 240, Jr.) and Sam Herrera (5-10, 205, Jr.) shore up the offensive line.

DEFENSE

Three starters are back on defense including one of the more dominant players in Class C in Jackson Harrison (6-4, 230, Sr.). The defensive end accounted for 120 tackles with five forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and four blocked punts. The linebackers are very athletic, which is why coach Corn is running a 2-4 scheme. Several players gained good experience last season and expect to step into full time roles with no hiccups. Cody Galleton (5-10, 170, Sr.) is a stout, physical player with excellent speed. Garvon Washington (Fr.) is a newcomer to watch this season. He could see time at linebacker on defense and tight end on offense. Jonathan Reed (6-3, 320, Jr.) is a three-year starter and a leader on and off the field. Also look for Jonathan Mitcham (6-4, 270, Jr.) who returns as a two-year starter for the Chargers.
