Red Oak’s Grace Montgomery Presented by Northeastern State University

GRACE MONTGOMERY
Red Oak High School
Growing up in a small rural community in Latimer County, Grace Montgomery always felt at home as the 2020 Red Oak High School graduated not only earning All-State honors in softball but knew everyone she met on a first-name basis.

After four years on campus at Northeastern State University, Grace feels that same confidence and comfort. “On my first visit to Tahlequah, it just felt like home, something I didn’t always experience when I visited nine other college campuses,” said Grace. “Everyone was welcoming, answering all my questions. After receiving the Presidential Leadership Scholarship and seeing things firsthand, I could just feel there was something special waiting for me here at NSU.”

Serving as president of the PLC and vice-president of the Student Nutrition organization has further enriched her experience.
“It’s been a perfect fit for me. My freshman year was during Covid when almost all of the student activities were restricted, yet because of the countless friendships I was fortunate enough to form, I’ve developed bonds that will last for a lifetime,” said Grace who will graduate with a degree in Nutritional Science with a minor in pre-Health.

Her positive learning experience is something that Grace credits to the outgoing efforts of her professors and instructors.
“The science program here is one of the best regardless of size. At NSU, the classes aren’t too big and the professors know you on a one-on-one basis,” Grace said with a look of satisfaction. “They actually care about your success as a
student and in your everyday life. They know who you are and will go out of their way to help you in so many ways.”

Those who know Grace Montgomery best will acknowledge her outpouring spirit of service, evidenced through taking part in a wide variety of activities. As a PLC member the last four years, she’s constantly been in front of the crowd through the Student Nutrition organization, Chemistry Club, Future Alumni Network along with NAB (Northeastern Activities Board) and playing one year of college softball.

“The atmosphere on campus is outstanding. I’ve enjoyed all the athletic events, NAB movie nights as well as just hanging out with my friends.”

When asked what she would say to prospective students as to why choose NSU, Grace Montgomery was quick to respond.
“It’s a special feeling. The atmosphere here is very welcoming. At Northeastern State University you won’t meet a stranger but instead you’ll make friends for life. It’s a home where everyone wants you to be here and is dedicated to ensure your happiness and success.”
