OFFENSE

The Roland Rangers return eight starters on offense for the 2021 campaign with good size in the O-line along with leadership there and at the quarterback spot. Jaxon Fouts (5-10, 160, Sr.) returns as the Rangers signal caller with what head coach Mark Rutlege calls excellent feet and extreme quickness in the open field. He’ll be protected by an experienced line headed by seniors Drake Davis (5-10, 265) and Cody Watts (5-8, 245) along with Mason Schalski (6-0, 285, Jr) who Rutlege calls a rising star on the line. Ashton Peters (5-8, 225, So.) had an excellent freshman year and looks to be a major contributor as the Roland running back. Courtland Oliver (6-2, 180, Sr.) will also get some calls to carry the mail and can also see action as a wide receiver and the versatile Hunter Taylor (5-9, 160, Sr.) will also find a place on the offense. After having a winning season in Rutlege’s first year as head coach in the crazy 2020 season, the head Ranger says his team is hungry for more in 2021.

DEFENSE

Roland returns a good nucleus of six starters to run Rutlege’s 4-4 defense led by Davis who will again work in the trenches, Fouts, who will roam the secondary where his speed will be a big asset, as will Taylor whose form as the Class 2A long jump champ this year will come in handy as he lunges to knock opponent’s passes away. Another senior will return to hold down the linebacking corps in Jackob Bush (6-0, 200). The Rangers will have a strong senior leadership element to their team this year and some valuable experience in most of the skill positions. After breaking out of a four-year losing streak with a 5-4 mark last year, Roland will look to maintain their winning streak and move deeper into playoff territory this year.
