Hulbert Riders 2023 Girls Basketball Preview Presented By Indian Capital Technology Center

GIRLS

Coach: Joseph McClure

22-23 Record: 11-16VYPE Top 100 nominees Sadie Chambers and Brooke-Lynne Norton will be key parts for the Riders, who were able to win two playoff games last season under head coach Joseph McClure. Chambers and Norton are just two names to a team that returns a lot of experience.

“We will have a lot of returning experience as well as some talented underclassmen. We will have more size and athleticism allowing us to play faster this season,” McClure said. “We won two playoff games last year and it was a big step for us as a team. We expect to keep getting better and better and hopefully be playing our best basketball by the playoffs.” Chambers, a 5-foot-5 sophomore guard, led Hulbert with 14.4 points and 3 steals per game as a freshman. She also averaged 3.4 rebounds, led the team in assists, field goal percentage and 3-point shooting percentage. “Sadie is a joy to coach, and she is super competitive,” McClure said. “We expect her to have an even bigger sophomore season.” Norton is a 5-foot-5 guard and an incoming freshman that McClure expects to have a major impact. “She is a tough and talented freshman,” McClure said. “Offensively, she can shoot the ball very well and has a knack for getting to the free throw line. Defensively, she is tenacious and will take on any challenge. Her mental toughness is probably the best thing about her, she is competitive, and she has the drive and work ethic to be great.” Brea Lamb (5-7, F, Sr.) and Gabby Cook (5-3, G, Sr.) are other key contributors from a year ago. Lamb averaged 6.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.7 steals as a junior, and Cook averaged 5.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and just over one steal. Other seniors are Alyssa Fair (5-5, G/F) and Chloe White (5-4, G). “All of our seniors play hard and bring something different to the table,” McClure said. “Their experience will be a big key for our team this season. They love to compete.” Junior center Calan Teague (5-11) will give Hulbert some size in the middle. Teague averaged 3 points and 3.1 rebounds last season. “Calan had a really good summer for us and emerged as a presence inside,” McClure said. “She could have numerous double-doubles this season.
