NSU’s Coby Tweten – “Riverhawk Nation” – Presented By Northeastern State University

After a stellar high school career followed by two years on the junior college baseball circuit and a single season at Division I Bethune-Cookman University in Florida, Coby Tweten was searching for a home, a place where he could not only chase his dreams but also find them.

And following just one conversation with RiverHawk baseball All-American Brock Reller, the North Dakota native found his home at Northeastern State University.

“When I entered the transfer portal, Brock told me NSU would be a perfect fit for me, academically as well as athletically. Once I came to Tahlequah, I knew he was right,” said Tweten, a member of the RiverHawks baseball team. “The similarities to the where I grew up, including the community support made me feel that this is where I belonged. The energy of Tahlequah and how it helps our university is special.”

A business administration major in addition to playing baseball, Coby admits he has a big family that supports him on and off the field.

“With the baseball team, it’s like I have 35 brothers and coaches that truly care about me as a person,” Coby said with appreciation. “The same goes with everyone on campus. The faculty, staff and deans pour their efforts into helping you be successful. They take you on as a member of their family.

Tweten, who stands 6-foot-7 and 300 pounds and is the biggest player in NCAA Division II baseball, likes the “extra things” that NSU and Tahlequah have to offer.

“Going to the River is a great plus,” said Tweten.  “I’m definitely what you call a ‘foodie’. I like my food and I enjoy trying all the restaurants Tahlequah has to offer.”

The journey from Grand Forks to Tahlequah is the one road trip that Coby Tweten is glad he made.

“Every student here has big dreams and everyone at NSU is ready to help you attain them. You’re never alone, there’s always someone standing beside you.”

And, just like the call he received with the invite to become a RiverHawk, Coby Tweten wants to extend the same offer to future students and their parents.“NSU is a smaller scale school that will help you attain big dreams, help you figure out what you want to do,” Tweten said with a voice of encouragement.  “And, if I was a parent looking for the right place for my kids to go to college, I’d without hesitation want them to go to NSU.”
