Sequoyah Tahlequah Indians 2023 Boys Basketball Preview Presented by Northeastern Health System

SEQUOYAH TAHLEQUAH INDIANS

BOYS

Coach: Zac Briscoe

22-23 Record: 6-20

Are the Indians set to return to the happier pre-Covid days of basketball excellence at Sequoyah Tahlequah? If you listen to head coach Zac Briscoe, the answer would seem to be yes. “We have a deep and athletic team that has the chance to have a great season. WE have a lot of experience returning and a team that is hungry to have a successful season.”

That optimism is fueled by the return of a core group of seniors led by Talen Gann (6-3), a VYPE Top 100 nominee. “Talen averaged 12.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game as one of our shooting guards,” said Briscoe. “He has the size, athleticism and skill set to be able to play at the next level and will be one of our key players in all facets of the game for us.” Another key member of the senior group is Brody Young (6-1) who averaged nearly 8.0 points and 6.0 rebounds a game in 2022. “Brody has the size to defend multiple positions as well as play multiple positions for us. He’s competitive and one of the hardest working athletes I have coached and is willing to do whatever it takes to help the team,” said Briscoe. Other members of the senior squad for the Indians include Trenton Drywater (6-2) who saw a lot of playing time and averaged about 8.0 points a game and a transfer student for the Indians in Cort Vance (6-2) who could end up being a double-digit scorer. Several other players saw a lot of playing time that will add experience for Sequoyah including juniors Jalen Handle (5-9), Kylar RattlingGourd (5-10) and Josiah Robbins (5-6). Several youngsters will also be looking to get extended playing time this year including Aidan Armontrout (6-1, So.) and Logan Taulbee (6-1, So.). Briscoe is also high on incoming freshman Cash Keys, the little brother of Lexi Keys who is now playing at OU. “He is probably our highest percentage shooter and a skilled, intelligent point guard. He had a very successful summer in our team camps and will be a major addition to our team,” said Briscoe.
