Stilwell Indians 2023 Basketball Preview Presented by Mountain View Meats

STILWELL INDIANS

BOYS

Coach: Mike George

22-23 Record: 23-4

After back-to-back seasons of 20-plus victories including a berth in the 2023 state tournament, graduation has created an opportunity for the Indians to restock their roster with playmakers to continue their winning ways. VYPE Top 100 nominee Tyrus Teehee (6-5, Sr.) who produced an 11.2 point scoring average while collecting 6.1 rebounds to earn NOAA 1st team honors last year, enters his third season in the starting lineup. “It’s more than just size that make Tyrus effective.

His on court awareness is an extension of his 4.32 grade point average,” said Indians head coach Mike George, who alsoexpects to get valuable leadership and a proven shooting touch from guard Keller Hitcher (5-11, Sr.) who averaged 5.1 points per contest a year ago. It comes as no surprise that Hayden George (6-1, Jr.) has the basketball IQ to make the right in game decisions to take over the point guard position. Conner Long (5-10, Sr.) who also is an accomplished race car driver, will called upon for added confidence in the heat of competition along with Keegan Hallmark (6-, Sr.). Coach George has kept a watchful eye on Brayton Carter (6-1, Fr.), who seems ready for the challenge at a guard position. The mix of players sharing minutes on the court this season will include a trio of juniors as Kason Dowty (6-0, Jr.), Talonhawk Holmes (5-11, Jr.) and Juan Martinez (6-0, Jr.). “We’ve been more experienced that past two seasons, but these kids understand what it takes to be successful,” George said with assurance. “The summer competition gave us the opportunity to find our team chemistry and we look forward to the challenge to compete for another chance to return to the state tournament.”
