Sequoyah Tahlequah 2023 Girls Basketball Preview Presented by Northeastern Health System

Annaston Brown (5-10)

GIRLS

Coach: Justin Brown

22-23 Record: 16-12

The girls have recovered from the Covid shutdown at Sequoyah a little faster than the guys as coach Justin Brown took the girls to the state tournament two years ago and to the area finals last year. There are two crackerjack starters returning for the Indians led by Annaston Brown (5-10), a VYPE Top 100 nominee who has averaged 15 points a game the last two seasons. “Annaston is a very underrated player who has battled injuries the last two years,” said Brown.

“She is one of the best shooters I have ever coached and is a great kid on and off the court. She is a future college player, and we expect her to have a great season.” The other returning senior is Lila Bible (6-2). “Lila has put in a lot of hard work since last season and I look for her to make big strides this year,” said Brown. The third senior in this group is Jacy Gideon (5-9) who will help provide some senior leadership for the ladies. Junior Rylee Bush (5-0) will be a player to watch according to Brown. The Indians are loaded with sophomores and freshmen that will be looking to break into the starting lineup or least gain some valuable court time off the bench. The sophomores include Kodee Bearpaw-Pritchett (5-8), Emma Culie (5-9), Lexi Daniels, Tylee Ford (5-9), Aliya Freeman (5-4), and Layney Smith (5-0). Freshman looking for their chance to get in on the action this year include Kyree Alexander (5-2), Macy Brown (5-5), Dally Davis (5-0), Kya Poafpybitty (5-8), Dayci Starr (5-10), Tessa Trammel (5-2), Abby Wyatt (5-9), Jacelyn Woodworth and Waleli Hummingbird.
